Kaal Bhairav has great significance in Hinduism. According to legend, this form of Lord Shiva destroys fear. He protects his devotees from enemies like greed, anger and lust. He is beyond 'time' and 'death'.

Kalashtami is an auspicious day for the devotees of Kalabhairav and falls on the eighth day during the waning of the Moon. The Kalashtami comes after Purnima (Full Moon).

On this day, Hindu devotees worship Lord Bhairav and keep a day-long fast.
